Electrifying Combustion: Plasma Technology and the Transition to Renewable

Forget spark plugs, plasma-based ignition is the vision for the future. For as long as the internal combustion engine has existed, scientists and engineers have been trying to find better and alternative ways of igniting the highly combustible fossil fuels like gasoline and natural gas which power most traditional forms of transportation. With renewed post G7 global efforts to tackle climate change, champion global shared values, while preserving our planet’s biodiversity minimizing our carbon footprint remains a hot topic.Join us for an interesting discussion with two scientists, one a Zuckerman Scholar, Technion Professor Joseph Lefkowitz and his colleague, Senior Research Aerospace Engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Dr. Timothy Ombrello whose life works have focused on this very issue of combustion challenges. Their goal, to improve ignition and combustion of traditional fossil fuels and enable operation with alternative zero-carbon fuels synthesized using renewable fuels for future energy and transportation needs.During our conversation we will discuss the following questions and more: We will learn what makes pulsed plasma the perfect enabler of future chemical energy and propulsion systems. What is the difference with combustion when using a plasma source?Advantages and disadvantages of using plasma and future trends in this area of study. Rebuilding Communities: Models Of Faith and Hope

If our collective experience regardless of where we live; has taught us anything during the last year and a half, it is that time is fleeting, life is a gift, and we have a lot to be grateful for here in the United States. Many of us have been worried about the challenges facing our families, and wider communities and have turned to faith leaders for guidance and a ray of hope in our darkest hours. Our panel of faith leaders from Miami consists of a rabbi, a pastor, a reverend, and an Islamic leader who have all had to think outside of their traditional ideological boxes and expand their ministries to address an ever-evolving list of social welfare needs of their congregants and broader community during the pandemic and now. Some have partnered with other faith leaders to bridge the gap of their local communities creating social program models that have been successful in both addressing the constituent needs and providing hope to those in despair. Together we will hear from these faith leaders and learn: What it means to be selfless in service of our fellow man.Which models have proven to be most efficient and effective in helping them address the growing needs of congregants? What challenges and triumphs have they faced and had during their expanded community outreach efforts?
