The America-Israel Friendship League (AIFL) commended the government of Greece for its effort to prevent the flotilla to break the Israeli blockade in Gaza waters.

The pro-Hamas flotilla activists rejected the generous offer by Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou to guarantee the shipping of aid to Gaza, under United Nations supervision, through Israeli ports. By refusing Mr. Papandreou’s proposal, the flotilla activists lied in claiming its mission was a humanitarian one to relieve the so-called “siege” of Gaza by Israel.

There is no siege. Israel allows regular supplies into Gaza, and Egypt recently opened its own Gaza border. Mr. Papandreou’s offer was received with great approval by the Israeli government. The flotilla organizers showed that their real goal was to provoke Israel into violence against those on board so that the flotilla’s participants could pose as martyrs and, in the process, damage Israel’s image. The flotilla organizers not only turned down the Greek offer, but continued looking for ways to circumvent the Greek blockade on their ships.

We salute the Greek Coast Guard for acting in accordance with international law and arresting the ship captain who tried to break the Greek prohibition by leaving port without permission and refusing to return.

All Americans participating in the flotilla were warned by the United States that they may face arrest for trying to aid the Hamas terrorist organization.

It has now been documented that Amin Abu Ibrahim, also known as Amin Abu Rashed, one of the main organizers of the flotilla to Gaza, has been linked to the Al-Aqsa Foundation, which the US Treasury Department has designated as “a critical part of Hamas terrorist support infrastructure.”
