The AIFL Denounces the Senseless Violence in Tucson, AZ

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The AIFL Denounces the Senseless Violence in Tucson, AZ The board of the America-Israel Friendship League deplores the barbarous attack against Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the murders of her aide Gabriel Zimmerman, John M. Roll, the chief federal judge in Arizona, and nine year old Christina-Taylor Green among others. Gabby’s first trip to Israel as a state representative was sponsored in 2001 by the America-Israel Friendship League. She became and remains a true friend and supporter of Israel and AIFL. Carol Karsch, Chairman of our Tucson chapter has issued the following statement: "Thank you for your calls and emails about the tragic events in Tucson. We are full of grief about the deaths and hanging on to every word of encouragement for the recovery of our beloved congresswoman. I want you to know that Gabby at 40 is a champion for Israel on the Hill and is everyone’s role model. She and my daughter Hannah were friends and classmates at University High School. Her first trip to Israel as a State Representative was sponsored by our own America-Israel Friendship League, Inc. and she is a tremendous supporter of the organization. She recently sent word to me that she wanted a full report on our upcoming Tucson delegation plans and looked forward to meeting with us upon return. Please include a refu'ah shlema for Gabby and keep her in your thoughts." We join with all Americans in condemning acts of malice that undermine American democracy. As Gabby noted in an interview in the Arizona Democrat, "we effect change at the ballot box" and not by "outbursts of violence."
