AIFL DEPLORES UN RESOLUTION ON GOLDSTONE REPORT
New York, NY, November 6th, 2009 - The America-Israel Friendship League deplores the vote taken by the United Nations General Assembly to adopt the Goldstone Report. “The entire approach of the Gaza inquiry, from its inception to today’s vote by the General Assembly is a politicized sham by the UN,' said AIFL Chairman Kenneth Bialkin and President Harley Lippman. “It only further demonstrates that a majority in the UN can be mobilized against Israel, while ignoring terrorism and egregious human rights violations around the globe'.
“The Goldstone Report ignored Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of continuous missile attacks on its civilian population. It draws moral equivalence between a democratic nation and Hamas, a terrorist organization' said the AIFL leaders.
The AIFL leaders said the biased UN action calls into question its ability to mediate in the Middle East peace process while strengthening the hand of terrorist groups.'
The AIFL expressed its appreciation to the US government and 18 countries which voted against adopting the Goldstone Report, and called on others in the free world to speak out for the right of Israel, or any democracy, to defend itself in the face of violent assaults.
The America-Israel Friendship League mission is to strengthen the ties between the people of the United States and Israel; bridging distances to reveal the beauty, the humanity, and the modern democratic values that define both nations. (www.aifl.org )
