The U.S. reaffirms its support and involvement in the peace process amid continued violence in the Middle East.
At Camp David, with President Clinton encouraging the negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat seem to be on the verge of a comprehensive breakthrough agreement, but Arafat rejects the plan and abruptly leaves.
