President Harry Truman asks Britain to permit 100,000 Jewish survivors of the Holocaust to enter Palestine. In 1946 a joint Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine lends their support, encounters Arab hostility, and is ignored by the British who continue to resist Jewish immigration to Palestine and support a partition plan.
