1939 The
British White Paper abandons the mandate plan,
which sharply limits Jewish immigration and rights
in Palestine, and promises the Arabs another state
in the region.
1939, 1943 and 1944
Resolutions in support of a Jewish National Homeland
in Palestine are adopted by the legislatures of
19 states and endorsed by 28 governors. In 1944
the U.S. Congress unanimously passes a similar
joint resolution, Reconstitution of Palestine
as a free and democratic Jewish Commonwealth.
