American
support for the establishment of the Jewish national
homeland
in Palestine was formalized during World War 1.
President Woodrow
Wilson and the American people welcomed the Balfour
Declaration of November 2, 1917, in which the
British Government pledged to facilitate the establishment
if a Jewish Notational Homeland in Palestine.
President Wilson unequivocally reaffirmed his
support for the establishment of the Jewish Commonwealth
in Palestine when he stated on march 3, 1919:
"The allied nations with the fullest concurrence
of the governments and people are agreed that
in Palestine shall be laid the foundations of
a Jewish Commonwealth".
