The America-Israel Friendship League is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit, non-political organization with various outreach programs:

Why We Are Friends
Between the United States and Israel are common shared values important to all citizens. The United States is the only real ally of Israel in a world where too many, ill-informed or of ill-intent, continue to challenge Israel’s right to exist. For this reason it is crucial that we nurture grassroots-level understanding and support of Israel and its people.

While many people know of the need Israel has for the active support of the U.S., few recognize that such need is a two-way street. In such a vital and volatile part of the world, the United States needs Israel’s political and economic stability. Most important are the individual Israeli citizens and their families, both in Israel and abroad, whose lives and livelihood are threatened on a daily basis.

For all of these reasons we are chartering the Utah Chapter of the America-Israel Friendship League. Through the help of AIFL-national, we have become the third chapter outside of the New York headquarters area. With a core group of well connected and influential leaders, we hope to be the template and harbinger of many more chapters nationwide. May 17, 2006 signified our official launch with a fund-raising dinner that culminated a week of successful events informing the public of the importance of Israel on the world stage and the need to unite on specific issues and events in its support.

Most Utahns feel a great sense of kinship and empathy for the people of Israel. The AIFL Utah Chapter finds here fertile ground and warm hearts, in which to cultivate understanding and provide support for the mission of the AIFL. Our goal is to make the launch of AIFL Utah raise awareness and understanding through deep reach into the hearts and homes of the citizens of this region.

Our goals, articulated so well in the AIFL Mission Statement, are “to support U.S-Israel friendship by stressing our mutual commitment to democratic principles, respect for human rights and dignity, and to highlight Israel’s efforts to implement that freedom and democracy in the Middle East. . . . Bridging gaps and enriching lives around shared democratic values of pluralism, tolerance, and inclusion, we forge alliances that transcend religious, ethnic, political and geographic boundaries. From the Bronx to Haifa, San Diego to Jerusalem, Salt Lake City to Tel Aviv, AIFL draws upon a constituency as broad and diverse as the countries we unite.” [from www.AIFL.org] To that end, funds raised and initiatives instituted through AIFL Utah will further all the initiatives of AIFL.
